Limassol-based shipping company Lavar Shipping, on the year of its 50th anniversary, is celebrating victory in this year’s Ayia Napa Triathlon Team Event, which took place on Sunday 5 April at the Nissi Beach resort.
The Triathlon, organised by the Municipality of Ayia Napa, in collaboration with the Cyprus Triathlon Federation and Nireas Triathlon Group, attracted 169 participants from Cyprus and overseas who competed across a number of different categories.
Lavar Shipping’s team, comprising Rebecca Maltezou, Charalambos Georgiou, and Giorgos Georgiou, completed the course in a time of 2 hours, 17 minutes and 36 seconds, with a grueling schedule of a 1500m swim, a 40km bike ride, and a 10km run. Success at the Triathlon followed hot on the heels of a respectable 5th place finish in the corporate category at the Limassol Marathon held on Sunday 29 March.
“Ever since our establishment in 1965 – 50 years ago – we have been firm believers in healthy competition as an essential element for progress. This mindset has helped us stay ahead as pioneers in the shipping industry”, said Reginos Tsanos, the CEO of Lavar Shipping. “Competition in sport is no different, which is why our company continues to participate in the most high-profile sporting events in Cyprus. This year, our athletes have done us proud once again by winning the Ayia Napa Triathlon, and I would like to congratulate Rebecca, Charalambos and Giorgos on their success. 2015 is a year of celebration for Lavar Shipping, and we look forward to making a number of exciting announcements about the activities to come later this year”.
